The Achilles Hope & Possibility Walk for Wounded Vets I

They gathered in Central Park on a sunny Sunday: Team Warrior's Pride. Back row l-r: India, Linda, Michael, Rob Diamond (event organizer), Tory, Deb, and Megan. Front row, Felicia and Jessica.

The Five-Mile Run/Walk, was in support of and alongside members of the Achilles FREEDOM TEAM of Wounded Veterans. Goldman Sachs was one of the sponsors of the race.

Most of these FREEDOM TEAM members were newly wounded, running and walking their first race. (The winner of the race was a double amputee whose finish time was 28 minutes.)

Even the dogs got in to the act! Go Team Canine!!

Before the race began, India spoke with Linda about the Hope and Possibility of Felicia actually finishing a Five-Mile walk! India gave it 50/50 odds.

But then they met Jessica, whose brother is an Air Force pilot, a veteran of many deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Jessica (right), talked about a special Thanksgiving when her brother came home after a long time overseas, moving him into a new apartment, and making a traditional Thanksgiving dinner in a barely furnished room. It was the family's best Thanksgiving ever!

Felicia and India had so much fun talking with Jessica and all the other racers they met along the way, that the time flew by.

Two of Felicia's new BFFs were Tom and Dan. They represented Team Verizon, sending out packages to our overseas troops every month. Tom and Dan took the edge off the 8 A.M. race with Bloody Marys. Their motto: "One cigarette a mile." It seemed to work. They almost beat us!
Till tomorrow,
Love, Maia
P.S. More about the Wounded Veteran's Race on Friday!! (Important birthday coming up tomorrow!)
