Dolce had a very hard day today. And judging by the way Felicia is downing her 187ml bottle of Sutter's Grove White Zin after a three hour drive to the vet and a three hour drive back, so did she! Today, Dolce went to the Detroit area to have her cast removed. Felicia had been told that a wire had poked through her sutures, but the veterinarian who performed the operation said that the plate was showing through her thin skin. "There's not a lot of skin to cover it," said the vet.
The first sign of trouble came when the vet assistant came out to the waiting room and asked Felicia when Dolce had eaten last. "She won't even let us take an X-ray. We'll have to sedate her." An hour later, when the X-ray was taken and a cast-less Dolce was brought to Felicia to look at, she was wearing a muzzle. "She is trying to bite us. She's wild. Is she ever like this at home?" asked the vet assistant. Felicia said no. The only other time Dolce had screamed and tried to bite was when the local vet was unwrapping the gauze next to her skin two weeks before (see Nov.19 post, "Dolce is a Star!"). "Is she in pain?" said Felicia. There were two stitches on her sore and her "digits" were swollen. Dolce's tiny little leg looked mighty sore to Felicia. The vet didn't seem to think that she was in pain. Felicia took the muzzle off and proceeded to get bitten by a frenzied Dolce, who wasn't at that moment living up to her name. Then, when Dolce understandably tried to lick her wound, the assistant got a collar for Dolce to wear, which Felicia somehow successfully slid over her head.
The bad news was that the animal hospital seemed to think that Dolce had a personality issue. "If she continues to act like that, you might want to see a specialist. I couldn't even pet her head. I wasn't hurting her." Felicia firmly responded that the only two times Dolce had acted like that was wound-related. But the good news was that the X-ray showed that the bone had healed. Yaaaaayyyyyy!!!! Best news ever.
Sacha saw Dolce on the couch and jumped up to say hello. She looked at Dolce's leg and licked Dolce's face. Awwww! Such a nice big sister. By the way, I went along with Felicia to the Detroit area vet clinic, and everyone there thought I was adorable. And I didn't try to bite a single person.
