Maia goes to MIAMI!

I was excited--after all the horrible gray skies and freezing weather of Michigan, Felicia and India and Brooke were taking me to Miami! I was happy at the thought of a vacation from Dolce jumping on me, wanting to play in the cage where she always has to stay (for two more weeks). And I looked forward to basking in the warmth of sunshine. I thought I remembered what sunshine was. So on Friday morning, Felicia and Brooke got up early and took the other dogs to the kennel.

Then they took off to pick up India at her college, a 40 minute drive away. They were cutting it close in good weather, and as it happened, a major snowstorm occurred the night before, and it was still snowing on Friday morning. The roads were slippery as they drove to India's college, the highways littered with cars that had slid off onto the median. There were police cars with their lights flashing, tow trucks, and for a while we all thought we'd never even make it to India's college, let alone turn around and drive back to the airport again! But as you can see, we finally made it to the airport, happy and relieved and more than a little surprised! Brooke and India opened the trunk to remove our luggage.

I stood shivering in the front seat, wondering what was going on. And I wasn't the only one shivering. So were Brooke and India...the snow was falling, the wind was blowing hard, and it was hard to believe that in 5 hours, we would be in sunny, warm south Florida!

Once in the terminal, a precursor to our warm weather arrived in the form of a little sparrow, hopping around in the warmth of the building. Brooke took a photo of our flying feathered friend. Then, when we got to the counter, we discovered that our travel agent had reserved, but not issued, our tickets! After a quick call to the travel agency, the tickets were issued. But, going through security, the agent said, "I'm having a problem with your boarding passes. There are two for Brooke and none for India." So Felicia ran back to the ticket counter and had them changed, ran back to security, and we finally made it to the gate! What an ordeal! And it wasn't even over yet!

I just sat patiently in my carrier and waited.

Finally we made it onto the plane! We were very happy to make it that far. Worst case scenario? We catch a later flight!

So we sat in the plane, with the snow and wind howling around us, and waited for the plane to be de-iced. And waited. And waited. Weather in Detroit was fine. Finally we took off. We had a thirty minute layover. The plane to Miami left at 1:30. We landed in Detroit at 1:20. We took off running, caught a tram, ran to the new gate, and just made it to the Florida plane on time.

Whew! What an exhausting morning!

Time to catch a little shut-eye before our big night in Miami!
