Taking Care of Dolce

Robyn the Vet asst, handed Felicia a folder to go over Dolce's 6-page instruction list. Tramadol (pain killer) every 8 hours. Clavamox drops every twelve hours (antibiotic). Metacam (for pain) every 24 hours. Do not give other meds. Watch for side effects. Bandage care. Follow-up visits. "Restrict Dolce's activity to leash walks only to go to the bathroom. No running or jumping allowed. Strict cage rest advised."

Keep the splint and bandages dry. "A wet bandage is dangerous!" Waterproof the bandage when walking outdoors, remove cover immediately upon returning indoors. Elizabethan collar if she chews or licks bandage. Check exposed paws/toes daily. Watch for swelling. Avoid slippery stairs or floors. "Good nursing care at home is conducive to rapid recovery. A good diet, clean dry and warm quarters are of prime importance." Whew.

Dolce seems in good spirits but she does look tired. She is not crazy about being in her cage (pictures tomorrow), but seems resigned to it. Sometimes, Felicia sits at her computer with Dolce on her lap, with a leash, to keep her safe if she fell, per instructions. A lot of ramifications for a simple act of carelessness!

But as Felicia's friend Faith, Chanel fashionista & stylist to the stars, not to mention M.A.R.L. supporter, told her, "Dolce [is] young and she will recover well so be glad you [had her leg plated]. I know you feel badly and it's expensive but she'll be o.k.....and won't love you any less." Here are some more pictures of India and Felicia and me, Maia, greeting Dolce for the first time after the accident!
